Yochy Lapidot Menachem defines her
artwork and life with color. Vibrant, joyous and optimistic.
These are the words that describe Yochy Lapidot Menachem’s “De-Neo-Impressionistic,” contemporary
oil and soft pastel abstracts, landscapes and figurative painting.
They also portray the Israeli-born artist herself, who overcame
a stroke in her 30’s that paralyzed the right side of her
body, but not her courageous and indomitable spirit.
Artist Statement
A conductor takes a seemingly random arrangement of notes
and blends it into a magnificent performance with heartbreaking
melodies and uplifting crescendos. A painter does much the
same, particularly one who uses the French method of pointillism.
I am one of these artists. I take random assortments of paints
and pigments and arrange them into an infinite number of dots
on a bare canvas. This creates a vibrant, shimmering and elegant
effect in which awe-inspiring shapes and figures emerge mysteriously
in harmony.

| The viewer's eye absorbs this wealth of color and
the illusion reveals a spectacular richness that cannot be duplicated.
Some of my pieces inspire images of waves crashing down on the
beach and one could almost swear that they have smelled salt in
the air. Others suggest horses thundering down the plain or the
gentle rustling of leaves and trees swaying in the breeze. My goal
with each painting is to exude a vivacity that awakens the senses
of its audience while elevating their spirits like the finale of
a great symphony. |
A helicopter ride with Brooke
Just to get away last weekend to clear my head
from the pressure of waiting to hear from the Holocaust Museum
we got sick and tired from not only the snow, but the freezing
cold wind
chill (-15c) we went to the Nevada desert.
There was a very high-tech electronic convention-we joined Avi, Harriett and
the kids. Bill Gates spoke at the convention center but I missed him by 3
days because
we forgot to check our schedules. I am positive I will meet him down the road.
It was 18c and a sunny perfect day. We were in the real Wild Wild West
Las Vegas, and one of my dreams came true. We were finally able to take
a helicopter
flight! Let me just tell you that getting into a helicopter is more challenging
than one would imagine. There are only two steps, but in order to climb these
two steps you have to do some "acrobatics". We did
a 3 hour tour through the Grand Canyon. It's the widest and the deepest canyon
at 4000 feet-haval al ha-zman! When we flew down the canyon all 5 people
in the
helicopter were scared to death. We were soo close to the walls
of the canyon that we could have seriously crashed, but
it felt so good. I have always said I would climb mountains, but
I didn't' say how I'd do it! But I did it! We got an exclusive
landing on the roof of the canyon. Mashee-who!

| We passed through Nevada, Arizona and Colorado, and
flew over the Colorado River, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, the Bowl of
Fire and the Mojave Desert. From the air we
could see such majestic views. There were a million shades of reds and browns.
We also flew above an inactive Volcano. It hasn't been active for over 8,000
years, thank God! There were 180 different types of birds, a mountain of mines,
but i learned that horses can't survive in the area because theres isn't enough
water or even a shade of a bush. mamash midbar We
saw Celine
Dion's
and Andre Agassi's magnificent
mansions and also got to see where they shot the infamous last
jump scene of "Thelma
and Louise". The scene from "Mars" in the Star Trek movie was
actually shot in this desert too! I saw breath-taking Hoover dam views, which
is
one
of
the
7 wonders of the world. We taped
the whole tour. Even Brook the helicopter pilot took a picture with us.
It was out of this world gorgeous!!! Everyone should take a trip in the helicopter
at least once in their lifetime. |
